Michael Roth is a recognized expert in turnaround management and growth acceleration. During his 25 years of consulting experience, he has advised and served in interim C-level roles for numerous organizations. He has a broad base of experience in corporate line marketing, sales, trade marketing, business strategy, retail marketing, CRM, and consulting.
As Executive Consultant at MainStream Management, Mr. Roth focuses on turning around under-performing companies and brands by designing marketing initiatives that drive sustainable growth, maximize market potential, and achieve unprecedented levels of profitability. He assists organizations in optimizing marketing potential with vision, strategy, and execution.
Prior to MainStream, Mr. Roth was a Managing Director at Getzler Henrich & Associates, a leading financial advisory company serving the middle market. He served clients across diverse industry sectors including consumer products, retail, agricultural equipment, furniture, legal services, industrial manufacturing, and building products. His clients included Marcal Paper Mills, Duane Reade, O-Cedar Cleaning Products, and HMG Worldwide. Representative client engagements include:
Duane Reade: Mr. Roth directed a team of six consultants in the re-launch of this $1.8 billion leading retail chain’s customer loyalty program. Results of the Company’s customer loyalty program re-launch included exceeding the target by over 300%, generating $100 million in incremental sales, and reversing same store sales rates from -2% to +7% within 18 months.
Marcal Paper - As Interim Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Mr. Roth led this $350 million manufacturer of consumer paper products out of Chapter 11. He identified $40 million in revenue and profit opportunities, restructured marketing and sales functions, and implemented new pricing and promotional strategies.
Prior to Getzler Henrich, Mr. Roth was Director, Business Strategy of Pfizer, Inc’s Adams division, an $800 million confectionery business. He championed and gained approval for the development and launch of “multi-pack” new products that have driven over $500 million in incremental volume at Pfizer (Adams was sold to Cadbury Schweppes plc, now Cadbury plc, for $4.2 billion in 2003).
Prior to joining Pfizer, Inc., Mr. Roth was Vice President, Marketing at Revlon, a $2.2 billion global cosmetics, health, and beauty products company. Mr. Roth was directly responsible for repositioning Mitchum, the oldest brand within Revlon’s Beauty division, driving the highest sales, bottom line profits, and retail brand shares in Mitchum’s 40-year history with Revlon. This initiative drove over $40 million in new business over three years. Mr. Roth was selected by the CEO and Vice Chairman of Revlon as the company’s senior worldwide representative on team working with C.K. Prahalad (author of Competing for the Future) to map out the company’s ten year corporate strategy and development plan.
Mr. Roth began his career at Playtex where he gained a reputation for bringing growth to portfolios that had been in decline. He spearheaded an innovative marketing plan that revitalized sales, profit, and consumption growth for the first time in ten years for the Playtex Glove brand.
Some of Mr. Roth’s other consulting clients have included Kraft-Nabisco, Schering-Plough, and L’Oreal.
Mr. Roth received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yeshiva University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He is a current member of the Turnaround Management Association.
